
About the Role
As a Sous Chef, you will work very closely with the owner and will set and drive the business’s strategy, vision, and kitchen operations in collaboration with the location management team. You will be responsible for managing a multicultural team and delivering excellent guest experiences.

Your responsibilities
Lead the Balagan kitchen team for both F&B outlets
Manage shifts including daily decision making, staff scheduling, and planning
Manage and support all kitchen activities, including food preparation and production
Train and hire new team members
Plan and manage food orders in a timely manner, ensure proper stock rotation
Ensure control and compliance with all health and safety regulations and local laws
Ensure control and compliance will all recipes and calculated margins
Support creating and developing the menu for both outlets
Support tracking, analyzing, and optimizing food costs
Support developing the profitability of the café and restaurant operations
Your competencies
You have the relevant job experience for this position
You have profound culinary knowledge and understanding (Israeli / Middle Eastern)
You know Portuguese safety, sanitation, and food handling regulations
You have excellent communication skills in Portuguese and English (mandatory)
You are comfortable working in a busy high-volume restaurant
You know how to calculate menu prices and are able to analyze financial performance
You are a team player and natural people person
You pay attention to the details and are happy to take over responsibility
You are able to work evenings, weekends and on holidays

About the Company
Balagan Food is a Middle Eastern inspired restaurant business operating as a nomad concept since 2020 in Greater Lisbon area. The Beach House at Praia do Sul in Ericeira will be our first fixed location with two F&B outlets: a Deli & Café on the ground floor and a full-service Restaurant & Bar on the first floor open 7 days a week. We are committed to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients but once served to the table transformed into a vibrant Mediterreanean-Middle Eastern cuisine. Opening this summer season, it’s an exciting time to join Balagan and we look forward to writing this new chapter together with you!
